Rwanda situated at the heart of Africa the bridge between the eco-system of the Cong basin and the Great Rift Valley of Eastern Africa and thus shares the natural riches of both worlds resulting in a country of exquisite beauty and unsurpassed biodiversity.

It lies at 2 00 S, 30 00 E, bordered by Uganda to the North, DR Congo to the West, Burundi to the South and Tanzania to the East. To the outside world, Rwanda is known for the genocide of 1994, but it has recovered from those years of turmoil that characterised the nation in the period 1950-1994.

Today, under the leadership of President Paul KAGAME, Rwanda is peaceful, prosperous and inviting. The country has three (3) national parks - Nyungwe Forest Park known for its large size and a vast army of chimps and monkeys; Akagera National park for game, including zebra, giraffe, antelope, buffalo; and Parc National des Volcans where Dian Fossey dedicated her life researching the celebrated gorillas.

Among its many and enduring attractions are the primates, in particular the mountain Gorillas. One of the most awesome wildlife interactions in the world.

Tanzania Travel Information

When to Go

Tanzania has much to offer all year round. Situated just south of the equator, temperatures average between 25-30C°. Humidity can be very high along the coastal strip and on Zanzibar but much lower in the interior highlands. There long rains are from March to May and short rains between October and December.

In addition there are frequently heavy rains in the south of Tanzania from December until April.

The wildebeest migration in the Serengeti occurs in June and July. If you are planning a trekking or climbing holiday the best months are May to September. Travelling by road, especially in the more remote areas or through the national parks, is easier during the dry months, as road conditions deteriorate significantly in the rain.

There is an average of 4-6 hours of sunshine each day.

When to travel

Throughout the year, however, May, June and November are generally rainy months when the land is refreshingly green and devoid of tourists. It seldom rains all day and short, heavy rain showers are usually followed by sunny periods making this a very pleasant time to visit Kenya. Camping, mountain climbing and camel safaris are more enjoyable during the drier months of the year.

July to September are the coolest months with a low of 10 degrees centigrade and high of 26 degrees centigrade and December to March the warmer months. The busiest tourist seasons are December through January, with Christmas and New Year being extremely busy, and the annual wildebeest migration into the Masai Mara which occurs between July and September.

You are recommended to book well in advance for these times of year. The scuba diving season runs from September to April each year. Deep sea fishing is possible all year but the seas can be rough during May, June and November, it is best between December and March.
