Itinerary summary Adamson’s Footsteps is a fantastic 10 day safari staying at some of the original sites of legendary ?Father of Lions? George Adamson and his wife Joy (Born free). This Safari explores some of the most fascinating wildlife areas in Kenya, flying over the vast wildlife plains and being hosted in ultimate luxury. Untamed Wilderness of Meru National Park Stay at the site of George Adamson’s Original Campsite in Meru National Park Stay at Joy’s Camp, situated at Joy Adamson’s original campsite in Shaba National Reserve, the place where she released her famous leopard Penny. Explore the indescribable Masai Mara Luxury Accommodation Fly from Camp to Camp The Meru National Park's claim to international popularity stems from the book - and movie - "Born Free". Authored by Joy Adamson, it tells about their lion and cheetah research. The famous "Elsa" lioness is the most famous of the lions in the park, and her grave is marked.
Itinerary description
The Adamson’s Footsteps 10 day flying safari accommodation on either Cottar’s 1920s, Saruni, Richard’s Camp or Elephant Pepper Camp whilst in the Masai Mara.
DAY 1 HOUSE OF WAINE, Nairobi On arrival into Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met and transferred to the House of Waine, set in Karen on the outskirts of Nairobi. Relax by the swimming pool or just rest and soak up the sunshine. In the afternoon you will enjoy a half day tour to the Nairobi Museum, where some of Joy Adamson’s original art work is on display. DAY 2 JOY’S CAMP, Shaba National Reserve You will be collected at 08h00 and transferred to Wilson Airport to catch the 09h15 Air Kenya scheduled flight to Nanyuki. Once in Nanyuki you will connect immediately with your private charter to Joy’s Camp. On arrival you will be met by a driver-guide and taken to the lodge. Joy’s Camp is the original Joy Adamson Camp, and the camp has 10 private tents each with its own deck area, ideal for game viewing and relaxing. After lunch and a siesta you will enjoy an extended afternoon game drive.
DAY 3 & 4 JOY’S CAMP Choose from an early morning guided walk in the bush or an extended game drive ending with a picnic breakfast. After a mornings game viewing, return to the camp for a delicious lunch. Following a peaceful afternoon admiring the watering hole. Take a late afternoon game drive finishing with sundowners before heading back to camp. DAY 5 ELSA’S KOPJE, Meru National Park After breakfast you will be driven to the airstrip for your private charter flight to Meru National Park, arriving at Elsa’s Kopje, where George and Joy Adamson brought up Elsa the Lioness and her 3 cubs. Set within the formation of the Kopje, the lodge and its nine cottages are invisible as you approach your destination. After an Italian style lunch, choose to either relax in your cottage on the verandah or by the swimming pool. DAY 6 ELSA’S KOPJE The untamed wilderness of Meru National Park is renowned for its Elephant herds, rare Northern endemic species with fantastic flora and changing terrain. We can also search for big cats and the elusive Rhinos.
DAY 7, 8 & 9 MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE Cottars 1920 or Saruni or Richard’s Camp or Elephant Pepper Camp After an early breakfast transfer to the airstrip for your private charter at 08h30 to Nanyuki connecting with the scheduled flight at 10h00 to the Masai Mara. The Masai Mara offers a true wildlife experience, one than is hard to duplicate anywhere else in the world. Each lodge is part of a particular conservation project or concession area. Game drives, bush breakfasts, sundowners and bush walks makes this an unforgettable safari experience. The Mara is famous for its prolific big game, predatory cats and vast antelope herds.
DAY 10 DEPARTURE Following one last game drive in the Masai Mara, you will be transferred to the airstrip to catch the 11h00 scheduled flight back to Nairobi. A driver will transfer you to your Nairobi hotel or to the International Airport for your journey home.
